This is a very good review of the LW sniper!

What I didn't understand: Is the meta to use the marksmanrifle then?

Bc with real backline snipers (maybe angel armor) with sniper rifles f. ex. Lone Wolf easily becomes better than Deadeye since +10 aim on everyone is better than +15 on flyers.

These guys don't work on every map tho. So I guess you use all snipers with marksmatype rifles and keep them with the team.

Thanks. Yes I like to play with flexible squads that are good at everything, rather than specializing for situations.

I’ve had some missions go very bad and having more mobile snipers is safer.

I see your point. Have the same (type of) squad for everything. Hm... interesting.

These backline snipers rack up alot of kills tho. Also long range kills are fun. Still, I get it with the overall versatility.

Playing with random soldier stats also leads me to develop several slightly different builds for high/low aim, mobility etc.

Do you play with 'Strict Screening' 2nd Wave so all soldiers are the same?

I use strict screening.

I wrote a post about uniform squads: https://xcom.substack.com/p/long-war-uniform-vs-specialized-squad?utm_source=publication-search

They are not entirely uniform but more so than most players…

Mayhem is another great ability that no one ever took at a sniper. At least not twice.

This perk has just no chance against DoubleTap or let alone ITZ, the strongest perk in the game. None whatsoever.

Theoretically it makes sense for an early sniper rifle, where +4dmg each round is more average dmg than a 2nd shot every 2 rounds. But in reality it can't compete with having two shots when shtf. Hmm...
