These are really good questions regarding tricky and confusing mechanics.

Regarding the Muton shooting rather than using melee, I know of a few things that can cause that, but I’m not sure which if any apply to that incident. Most of what I know about Combatives/Melee can be found on my Shinobi build guide: https://xcom.substack.com/p/lwotc-class-builds-shinobi . None of that explains it, if the muton was not disoriented, and did not use melee in the previous turn. The muton did not have the disorient animation but sometimes it doesn’t appear. Alternatively the muton may not actually be on the square that he appears to be, which would explain it. Also, he may not be able to step out into the square adjacent to him and your soldier. This can happen when that square is degraded by explosives or a unit dies there. So my best guess is that it is some kind of animation bug. It is also possible you have a mod that somehow alters muton AI but that seems unlikely.

Combatives is awesome and I have never experienced what jhappened here.

Regarding burning tiles it is extremely hard to determine visually which tiles are burning. You can tell it is there but never exactly which tile it’s on. One trick I use is to hover the mouse over each tile adjacent to the enemy that may be on a burning tile, as though I am going to move a soldier there, and that will tell me which of those tiles are burning. Sometimes ruling out one of those tiles will make it clear that the enemy is standing on fire. That’s all I got, and it ain’t much.

I have seen the green alert reaction fire on my campaigns. I’m not sure if this was a bug for you and me, or if this just happens sometimes. I do know that on some missions all the pods begin at Yellow - that’s listed somewhere. Under infiltrating a mission will increases the likelihood that enemies get reactions, perhaps it also upgrades reactions from defensive to offensive, but that’s speculation.

I have some questions, one about combatives and the other about incendiary/flamethrower and burning tiles

- How do you know when the tile that the enemy is on is 'burning' and the enemy will end up burning next turn despite not being directly set on fire?

- I've tried just visually inspecting the tile but this is unreliable. Sometimes it looks like they're on a burning tile but then they move and don't get set on fire.

- How do you use combatives properly?

- Even sitting next to a muton sometimes they just shoot my shinobi, making the skill kinda worthless IMO

- Was there some kind of change to AI? I understand it has diminishing returns, but I'm seeing mutons just prefer to shoot

Here's a video example I took when recording. This has happened to me 3 times now and I'm just considering taking other perks instead. You'll have to take my word for it that the muton didn't melee anything at any point prior to this clip.

Bonus - here's the lovely green alert offensive action bug that I keep running into.
